Try This Wash Routine If You Want Thicker Hair

I have always been someone who has suffered from fine, thin hair. Over the years, no matter how much length I retain, my hair has never been as thick as I wanted it to be; however, these tips have helped my hair be the thickest it has been since I was a child.

1. Find the right shampoo.

I wash my hair once a week, so you can imagine the damage my hair went through because I was using sulfates to cleanse my hair, and that was surely stripping it, making it thinner. Once I began co-washing my hair with a cleansing conditioner, I noticed a big difference; my hair was not as dry, nor was it breaking off. Nonetheless, I shampoo my hair once a month using a hydrating shampoo after doing an apple cider vinegar rinse to clarify my scalp.

2. Deep Conditioner is your best friend.

All naturals probably tell you to regularly deep condition your hair, and they are right. However, they never specify the type of deep conditioner you should use. I began using a deep conditioner that contains ingredients for thickening hair. Once I made this change, over time, I noticed my hair was stronger and thicker. I sometimes leave my deep conditioner in for a whole week or just overnight.

3. Utilize Oils and Leave Ins

After you rinse your deep conditioner out, it is important that you take advantage of your hair being damp; this is the time to massage oil into your scalp. I prefer to use castor oil, grapeseed oil, and avocado oil. To moisturize my hair, I use my homemade shea butter hair butter or my DIY flaxseed gel.

4. No Blow Dryer Needed/Necessary

I am sure you have been told to keep heat off your hair. At the end of your wash routine, it is best to braid your hair down rather than to blow dry it. I personally like to braid my hair into four to six sections and let them dry.  Braiding is a natural way to stretch your hair and is a better alternative than thinning your hair with a blow dryer. The more you keep heat off your hair, the thicker it will become.
